Solidworks 2005, 2006, and 2007 driver problem 2

I have been working with 2004 a long time now, but since the new versions of solidworks my drivers for my videocard can't work with the newer programs.

I've just used a testversion of 2006 and when it worked wonderfully a week or two ago, now suddenly working with it is an absolute disaster. It is horrendously slow. Every step, like slecting a plane is just slow. Impossible to work with.
Wondering what changed I remembered I installed the official drivers from Ati (7-1_xp_dd_40211.exe) for my Gigabyte Ati 9700 Pro videocard. Before that I had the windows version drivers, which are installed automatically by XP (SP2).
Though rolling back the ati drivers might seem a good solution, I'd like to use the Ati drivers because that makes life easier with other programs. So that is my dillema.

I am desperate for a solution, so I might try my luck here. Hopefully someone can point me to a site, or forumpost I haven't seen or found.

This is the setup:

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
2 GB DDR-400 Geil RAM
AMD 2500 + CPU
Gigabyte 9700 Pro GPU

Thanks in advance.

I've heard somewhere else that Nvidia 7600 GPU cards work with Solidworks. It is a budget card which sell under 100 EUR.

I'll be looking to that right now...

And yes, the option Use Software OpenGL is checked and greyed out without any part or file opened. So that means SW doesn't even look at my VC.

Nope it doesn't even look or use your VC... its useless to use with SW now. You have to understand every major version as you move forward gets more, and more demanding on hardware and if your VC is not a certified one then it will not work with SW.

7600 GPU is still not a supported card and if you get that, you might run into the same problem.

This is the site that will help you find a good certified card.

YOu also need to find out if you are using an AGP card or a PCI-E card. That is the kind of info you need before you just go out and buy a new card.

Here is a low end PCI-E card -
Here is a old and low end AGP card -
The one Quadro card you must not buy is hte Quadro NVS, that card is not made for CAD and will cause you more pain then what you have now.

This is the card I have.. its old and will have to be replaced in a couple of years:

IF you have a PCI-E slot I would look at getting the 1400 its a good mid-range card.

If you have an AGP then maybe to save money get the old 1100 like mine... its about 2 years old now... VC usually only last on Average 4 years.

I hope this helps,
