Solidworks 2007 and Vista

I upgraded my computer to Vista a few weeks ago. I am running SW 2008 & 2009 on the Vista system. I would like to add SW2007 onto the same computer so that I can be compatible with SW2007 that my clients are using.

When I first loaded SW2007 it worked fine - even though everything I read said that it should not work at all - until I rebooted the computer the next day - it wont start anymore

I am running Vista 32 bit home premium edition.

Any suggestions? It is a real pain in the ass to have to switch over to an XP system in another office to have to work on SW2007 files.

SW2007 was not coded to run on Vista. It will only run on XP Pro.

Also, even though SW may work with some/many/most Windows OS Home versions systems, none of them are recommended or supported by SW.

I understand that is is not recomended, but why is it that some people seem to be able to run SW2007 with vista and others not.

I have never had a problem with home editions on any use of solidworks since I first started using it in 2001.

I also found it quite odd that SW2007 worked until I rebooted the system. Based on that, I would have guessed that someone else may have found a way around it.

Are you able to set the SolidWorks.exe file to run in XP compatibility mode?

I dont know what you mean by setting the file to run in XP compatability mode - please explain

XP had a function which allowed a program to be run as if it were on a lower version OS.

In XP, the function is accessed by right clicking on the programs executable, selecting Properties > Compatibility and then choosing from the OS listed. I assume Vista is the same but have not had cause to try or even look.

I found the compatability mode switch and tried your suggestion to switch it to XP compatability. There is no difference in what happenes. I get the same message that says - Solidworks has stopped working.

It is odd that when i first installed solidworks 2007 - it worked just fine

Un-install, re-install, leave it running.

I had similar problems when I tried to install SW2007 on my computer (Vista Ultimate 64 bit). What you have to do is clean out everything SW and reinstall.

Remove the application in Add/Remove Programs, Delete the folder under C:\Program Files (or where you installed SW)

Click Start – Run

Type

Regedit (hit OK)


On the left column, expand the following

HKEY Current User – Software

Highlight the solidworks entry and delete it (right click option)



Expand the following

HKEY Local Machine – Software

Highlight any Solidworks entries and delete these as well
