Solidworks 2016 SP 5.0 Startup Fails at Splash Screen

Hi All,

I have the same problem as the referenced post. Splash screen displays for 5-10 seconds, then disappears with no error message. It's showing "Loading registry..." when it goes.

No other SW-related programs will run, e.g., Rx, eDrawings, etc. The only exception is license manager which runs fine.

All VAR will say is that my graphics card is not supported, so of course it doesn't work. It doesn't seem like this can be the issue since eDrawings won't run - the system requirements for that are exactly "Windows 10, 64-bit". I also don't believe that Rx needs an approved graphics card to run.

Things I've tried:
- rename/reset registry
- run in OpenGL
- disable firewalls
- disable antivirus
- Reinstall SW
- Reinstall Windows

System:
- Dell Latitude 3580
- Intel Core i7
- Intel HD Graphics 620 / Radeon R5 M430
- 8 GB RAM
- Windows 10 Pro
- Solidworks 2016 SP 5.0

I am willing to bet your Graphics card is the problem I don't think it's supported. If it is, have you tried a different driver?

True, the graphics card is not supported, but why would that be preventing eDrawings and Rx from running?

I have tried different drivers, no luck on that front thus far.

Tried everything listed on all the forums to no avail. Finally resorted to formatting the hard drive and that did the trick.

Glad you got it fixed, sucks you had to do that, but I don't think there would be much more you would be able to do, other than replacing the HDD.

Next time try to uninstall SW then clear all SW references out of the registry, big PIA as they hide crap everywhere. Then install again. I have had to do that a few times in the past, but not in the last 8 years.

I tried once with a SW uninstall, but must not have gotten all the hidden crap. Since I've only had the computer for ~6 months and all my CAD is on the server, it was quicker to backup my personal files and start fresh.

To clear everything out of the registry you have to manually do a REGEDIT and find all the stuff. I had a reseller previously that had sent me a list of all the entries/folders that needed to be deleted out of the registry but it was over 10 years ago and I have changed jobs so lost the list long ago. Otherwise I would share it.
