Hi Everyone,

I am still trying to learn solidworks and i have a pretty simple question that i cannot seem to get answered by searching online.

I made a hole using the hole wizard, it is a straight tapped hole M1.6x0.35, and i checked off the box in the options section "with thread callout." My understanding of this is that the thread will automatically show up in the drawing, but it doesnt seem to show up for me. I can see the cosmetic thread on the part, but not on the drawing. Any ideas on how to callout this thread?

Thanks,

although i did try that. All it gave me was the diameter of the hole.

Go to Tools>Options>System Options>File Locations
and scroll down for something like hole callout. That should point to a directory that actually exists. On occasion I have seen this point to an older directory that is no longer valid.

Using windows explorer, follow the path listed to confirm that the below file is actually in that location:
calloutformat.txt

If the directory does not exist, search for that file within the SolidWorks install folder. When you find it, go back to the Tools>Options... and point it to the proper directory.

calloutformat.txt is in the directory that solidowrks is pointing to. There is also a file in there named calloutformat_2.txt, would this be an issue?

Any other ideas?

Nope... SolidWorks only looks for the one named calloutformat.txt. Though the one with the _2 leads me to think that someone attempted to create a custom file (or rather modify the standard one). The _2 file may be the original simply renamed to be a backup (this is exactly how I do it). You may want to try renaming the calloutformat.txt to something else (like _3) and then rename the _2 back to calloutformat.txt and see what happens.

It could be that the field for metric threaded hole was corrupted when someone did some customizing.

That still didnt work....

Any more suggestions? If anything, is there any way i can manually input the thread in the hole callout?

Still Didnt work. All i am getting is the hole diamterss.. no thread. I am now able to see the cosmetic thread on the drawing, but the hole callout isnt displaying a thread..

Are you using the "hole callout" tool or simply the "dimension" tool?

Post your parts/drawings you are having a problem with. Tell us what feature in the parts is the problem.

Otherwise we are just guessing about what your problem really is.

Ok, I will post a quick example that shows the problem that I am facing. I will not be able to post it until Tuesday, given that I will be out of the office until then, which is the computer that has solidworks/ the problem on.

Thanks so far for all the help everyone. I really appreciate it
