I would like to know if anyone has had a prototype manufactured in China and if you just provide them with Solidworks drawing. Provide 2D drawings along with the 3D I presume would be helpful but very time consuming on my part. Would a 3D model be enough for a prototype assuming they also have solidworks?

Thing about Trek is they are so large of a corporation and so busy manufacturing their own frames.....they have no interest in doing contract manufacturing. It took them almost four months to warranty a frame I broke last year.

GoodBaby Group in China makes all the bikes for Huffy Corp. They also make anything baby for Graco and Cosco. This is a giant organization but they are a quality outfit. I have some business cards of contacts there if you want to attempt to chase that lead down.

The best place to look into having a frame built in Taiwan/China is through the TBG (Taiwan Bicycle Guide) this list manufactures in all fields of Cycling (frame tire wheels ......)

I worked over there for years (High end bicycle components). Most companies work with what’s called an Agent over there. They have contacts an the manufacturing level and they are you go between. Most manufactures have someone that speaks English so you could communicate direct if needed.

They will use your Solids to make prototypes with. I would always include a detailed drawing with tolerances.

One important thing to remember when working with Asia is that prototypes (majority of the time) will be better than production. You will work out the bugs on the proto and go through a whole other deal in production. It’s the way it is and will all ways be.

The last thing to note is, be clear concise and that when they say yes to something this does not mean they can do it or make it or agree with it. It means they heard you but may not understand.

Here is the link to the trade center in Taiwan
Every state has a commissioner in the building that can help you.

They hold a bicycle trade shows here on the ground floor every year (Taipei show).

That's a good point CJ. I have been working with our "agent" for the last month with numerous illustrations just to get them to understand the difference between a lap solder joint and a "J-Hook". It's frustrating to no end.
