usnig solidworks 2010. when i restrain a face and apply a force onto that face, i get an error that 'no loads are applied to the model'

could somebody shed some light on this?

i use SW simulation 2011 and i got this kind of error only when i actually didn't apply any loads, even gravity. if u restrain a face and put a load on the same face it might be a problem.

make a try placing the restrain or the loads in a different position

oh i understand why i cannot apply a force to a restrained face - coz the only forces at a fixed geometry is reaction forces :)

FEA translates all forces and pressures to nodal loads. If a node is fully fixed then the force goes immediately to ground as a reaction and does not effect the stiffness matrix at all. So you are asking the solver to give an answer to the following equation:

Kd=0

where you know K (the element stiffness) and d (nodal displacement) will then be zero.

Of course if not all directions on the face, edge or vertex are constrained then if the force is in an unconstrained direction you should be able to proceed.
