SOLIDWORKS Simulation: Problem with Stress Linearization with 2D Simplification

Hi,

I'm doing a simulation of an expansion joint of a pressure vessel according to TEMA RCB-8.

I set up the static simulation using the 2D simplification and when i have to do the linearization of the stresses (after the section clipping), the stress plot disappear and if I click the points for linearization the following message appears: "The selected points are invalid".

Section clipping: stresses are displayed correctly before using the linearization tool (Fig. 1)

Zoom on section clipping area (Fig. 2)

Problem when using linearization with 2D simplification: the stress plot disappears and I cannot select the points (Fig. 3)

I use the same process for simulations without 3D simplification and have never had this problem.

Thank you for your help.

Stress linearization can be point (co-ordinates) based or node based depending on software. Check whether you can use the node option.

For specific questions related to Solidworks FEA, you can use forum1183. You may get better help as this is general FEA forum.

Thank you NRP99.

The Stress Linearization option in SolidWorks simulation does not work with the "2D Simplification" option.
You can use the "Stress Linearization Utility" tool made by "PVEng".
Even if "Linearize" is clickable in the program?
Thanks now download and try it.

FPPE,

Yes, this option will not work with "2D simplifed models". Only sections of 3D models can be used.

IdanPV, I tried the PVEng tool.

This requires the "probe" function and I have the same problem as the "linearize" function: when I click it, the stress plot disappears and nothing is clickable, so I cannot select any point, as in the previous image I attached.

FPPE,
For the "Stress Linearization Utility" tool you don't need to use the pressure vessel module nor the section view option.
Just run the "2D simplified model" and use the "PROBE" feature to collect data, than, follow the instructions in the utility.
PS
You should create "split lines" which will function as SCLs.

Perfect, thank you very much. Now I try.

Sorry IdanPV, but do I need "CosmosWorks"?

"CosmosWorks" is the old FEA engine of SolidWorks.
You don't need it, just ignore the "CosmosWorks".
