Solidworks Tree Exploding

Is there a way to prevent the solidworks tree from exploding, especially when working in assemblies? It seems to be random but often after applying mates to two different parts in a assembly, one of the other sub-assemblies will have its "listing" expand in the tree. You then have to go and reduce these listings to keep your tree from being overly long. Sorry if I am using the wrong terms here.

Close the tree and click rebuild. If it returns do it again and rebuild it again. I find it usaully takes about 2 rebuilds to fix the issue. It isn't great but it gets you pass this issue. Maybe some can write a macro to collapse all trees and rebild the file.

This is a long-standing nuisance with the software. I actually put in multiple enhancement requests to SolidWorks' website for this exact issue. Yet, they fail to do anything about it. I would be curious to know how much time is wasted by engineers annually just collapsing the assembly feature tree. Often, you must collapse and rebuild three times to fix the problem. It is especially debilitating when working in large assemblies with long feature trees. The collective time wasted is probably staggering. I would strongly suggest that every user who is tired of this problem contact their VAR and submit an enhancement request to SolidWorks.

Contacting the VAr isn't going to do as much good as it will for you to just place the ER into SW. if you have alread submitted it once then you will not be counted a second time. The more ER that are put in the faster the issue get resolved.

One way to submit an ER multiple times is to do a submittal for each serial number owned by your company (but I'm not sure how this would work with network licenses).

The benifit of contacting you VAR is that they can submit the ER under their numbers as well. It helps to have the ERs use the same wording.

Although, I'm not sure how much SWx could do about this particular issue. I have heard that the feature tree uses Windows explorer technology as it's backbone, so the blame could be shifted to MicroSoft.

This does not get to the core issue. Yes the selected items will stop scrolling into view, but the tree will still continue to expend with each assembly mate and rebuild as before. The original question posed in this thread was, "Is there a way to prevent the SolidWorks tree from exploding, especially when working in assemblies?" Your solution will not do away with this problem. Not to be proud or boastful, but only to inform. Hope this helps.

Just trying to help. Have had similar issues and the fix I proposed works as far as I can tell. The tree does not expand when mates are applied. However I am on 2004 if that makes any difference.
