The plant uses water soluable oil for a metal forming operation. We wish to:
1. treat this as sewage and discharge to the environment.
2. Recover the soluable oil and reuse.
3. The soluable oil residue may be mixed with other wastes, and may need to be treated prior to discharge.
I am not sure which method will be required. Any information will be appreciated.

Presently to do this we use dissolved air floatation units and are currently looking at induced air flotation units and ultrafiltration. All work well but will depend on the scale you are operating at - we chrn over an emulsion at 18000Lpm. Centrifuge might be good but may damage the oil.

A centrifuge would not work with a soluable solution, there needs to be separate phases for the separation to take place. To see if your waste stream is suitable for centrifugation, take a sample in a glass or beaker and let it sit on a table for awhile and see if the oil and water separate, or if you have a lab spin tester, place the samples in the test tubes and spin for a maximum of 3 minutes. If it separates, then a centrifuge will probably work, if not, then you will need to find another solution. Mike Bensema
