My DraftSight alias list was empty and if I imported the included list or manually entered new ones, they would disappear when I closed the options dialog box or clicked 'apply'.
Searching Google for "DraftSight aliases disappear" brought me to: "Draftsight Alias Commands not sticking" (thread1480-331534). There was no solution posted and the thread is now closed. I found a solution that worked for me, so am posting it here for reference.
In my case, the issue was that the Alias File Location was not set. To resolve:
1) Open the options dialog box:
3) Under 'Interface' click on the plus mark beside 'Alias File Location'
4) Click 'Browse' and navigate to the 'Alias' folder in the DraftSight AppData directory; mine was here:
Once that is set, new aliases should stick. I had to re-import the original list so that I was not starting from scratch. To do so:
1) Again in the options dialog box, select 'User Preferences' from the buttons on the left
2) Under 'Aliases' click 'Import...' and locate the alias.xml file in the DraftSight program files; mine was here:
