Anyone here familiar with any NFPA rules that would apply to solvent (toluene) tanks in a haz waste collection facility?

I'm starting the very basics of research on this, any genuine help would be appreciated.

The tank volume would be a good start. Do you own a copy of NFPA 30? If not, order it now.

Are you looking for guidance or free consulting?

Guidance only. Tank vol is 300-600 gal.

If NFPA 30 is the place to start, then that's where I'll start. That's the sort of info that I'm looking for, not free consulting.

are they trying to do any transfer of liquid inside the building???

Yes, it's a collection/transfer facility for used hazardous wastes, and at the moment, the tanks are polypropylene.

UUUUUmmmmmmm...

Collecting flammable liquids in poly (or any other type of plastic tanks is not a good idea and may be banned by NFPA-30

My recollection only

Yes, banned. There is even a minimum melt temperature for valves and valve internals.

Steel, steel, steel.......

Read page # 6 and Section 3.3.2 of this report:

Take a good look at Figures 5 & 6.... the backhoe operator died

Also review OSHA 1910.106 on use of plastic materials in fire exposure situations.

Let us know about your final decision on materials usage
