Does any engineer have experience in a residential HVAC system wherin a microscopic hole in the evaporator allows refrigerent oil to escape and coat the duct work and interior of the house in the cooling season and burn on the furnace heat exchanger in the heating system to deposit carbon soot throughout the structure? This was proven in one case where the microscopic hole was located and a new "A" coil corrected the sooting process.

It sounds feasible though I've not heard of this particular situation that you describe. As I'm sure you are aware, there may be other mechanisms by which soot and other contaminants can be deposited on the furnace heat exhchanger and in the ductwork (EG. combustion products from household or outdoor air activities, particulate in outdoor air which is then brought in to the house through ductwork).

Some people burn scented or decorative candles a LOT, and the HVAC system is blamed for soot streaking on walls, etc. I'm sure there can be other causes, but in any case of sooting I'm aware of, the burning of candles is the source of the problem.
