I read some time ago, that there is a motor to use on an end effector that will recognize speeds and feed requirements as the different materials present themselves.

Is it possible as we drill through Aluminum to 15-5 Stainless for the load on the drill motor to change the speed and feed on the fly at a program level?

Thanks in Advance

I don't know anything but the people that do.

All you'd need is a current detector on the drive motor.

Yup, what he said. Many servo motor / driver rigs have the capability to sense torque on the motor (inferred by reading the Amperage values). Drive your spindle that way. You'll have to develop a programmatic algorithm for changing the spindle speed/feed on the fly.

I received some more input from the automation guys, and they are using air motors. My suggestion is to use a torque sensor between the motor and the chuck...We will see how it goes...

I guess cost isn't a huge issue?
