Spiral wound gasket vs steel trap (STM) gaskets

Hello,
For HRSG drum manhole, our spec. calls for spiral wound gasket vs our supplier came back with deviation to use steel trap (STM) gaskets. I have not heard but is that allowable?

Not sure about the standard but they mentioned primary reason to select steel trap(STM) gasket is due to Significantly lower minimum gasket seating stress.

since you are not sure about the standard, just do the pro-cons analysis i.e. cost, maintenance, availability, etc especially for future maintenance.

You can also get lower stress to seal spiral wound gaskets. Lemons, Flexitallic Garlock etc all supply these.
Manway gaskets have many options... I fail to understand why the Steel-Trap (TM) [available only from Chesterton] is the only option available....I'd perhaps ask a more independent supplier.
