spring simulation

I wanna to simulate a helical compression spring part

model.spring is oriented vertically and I wanted to

press it from top for a certain distance.how can I do

that?

You cannot do this with SolidWorks. SolidWorks does not completely integrate elastic analysis with its design, modeling and drafting system.

You can do what I do, which is create multiple configurations of the spring, representing free height, solid height and the various heights that will occur in your design. If you use a design table, you can analyze for force and stress. I suspect that this is what you are after.

I have not played with CosmosWorks. There may be something you could do with that.

To add to drawoh - You should look at using Derived configs to help with the control of you springs.

Another suggestion:

make your spring design equation dependent, controling the pitch in relation to whatever dimension controls the spring extension (can be other part's mating dimension)

Make your spring length dependent on the length of a single line drawn in a 3D sketch. Have your pitch and length adjust by equations to the length of the line. Then, you can control the spring length in-context by constraining the control line endpoints in-context in an assembly.

Good solution Tick!!! I have been toying with this idea in the bcak of my head, but never had time to really think it through. Of course, we are down on in-context relationships since we use SmarTeam, but I think there is arguement to have a few for this purpose.
