Those are Fire Code and Building Code issues.
I have seen fire code mandated sprinklers installed in electrical rooms. The switchgear often has shields to divert the water so that the sprinklers do not spray directly on top of the switchgear.

I've only seen wooden poles and maybe a 4'x 8' sheet of plywood on the wall for a Telco board in a substation.

I’ve done double action sprinklers and shunt tripped the gear ahead of water flow.
