STAAD AISI code check for User-Defined Sections

I am trying to create custom sections in STAAD, and have tried creating User tables (general and prismatic), and changing the STAAD database tables. The shapes should be checked using the AISI code.

When I apply the shapes defined in the User Tables, the results state that the sections cannot be checked with the AISI code.

When I apply the shapes created in the database tables, I get an error stating that the table does not exist.

So the base question is, can STAAD run an AISI code check for a custom shape? And if so, what would be the best way to define the shape? I am using STAAD Pro V8i.

Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.

Thank you for the recommendation, I have tried the Section Builder (we have a trial version only), but it seems the main use is to determine the section properties. I have these calculated already, and would just like to be able to preform a code check based on these properties.

Based on the section builder website, the program will determine an equivalent section for you in order to create the code check, I was just hoping for a more direct method through STAAD.

Based on Bentley's forum (see link below), modifying the Section databases in STAAD to include the new section is a way to "trick" the program into performing the AISI code check on a custom shape, but I have been unable to get this to work.

The link that you mentioned about contains the answer to this issue. You need to ensure that you follow the same nomenclature for your defined section as has been followed for other existing sections in the same table.

If you still encounter problems you need to create a service ticket by going to with all details and technical support staff at Bentley will be able to assist you.
