greetings for every body,
I have one question, which is better when I want to design multistory steel building (five floors). using STAAD or ETABS according to American code??
I think STAAD is better in steel design but it has some limitation for example.it can't take the eccentricity for wind load cases as figure27.4.8 in ASEC (ETABS can do this).
also STAAD can't deal with composite section if the width of concrete at the top flange bigger than the top flange
so any one can tell me his opinion in ETABS or how can I solve these problems in STAAD
I appreciate any advise form you ,
thanks in advance

If you have a full range of choices, then Ram Structural System is probably your best bet. If it's just between the two you mentioned the first point is minor, you could always apply custom wind loads. The second point is also not bad. STAAD.pro does allow the wide flange user table sections with asymmetric flanges to be designed as composite beams. Likewise, with RAM SS it requires a quick edit to the master steel table to enter these sections only. I'm not sure about ETABS in this regard.
Here are some additional details:

thank you SethGuthrie for your help,
I agree with you for the wind issue, however it will take some time but it can be handled manually
but in the other hand,
the wide flange with asymmetric flanges still not solving the problem for composite section I can't depend on it in design for steel floor ...if the concrete width of composite beam about 1 meter and the I section flange was 300mm I can't simulate it in staadpro

Elsarwan, you do know that this is a Bentley forum and that Seth works for Bentley don't you? You need to post this in a more general forum where a broader cross section of users will see it. This forum gets very little traffic as far as I can tell. I suspect most of the people who visit would not be familiar with ETABS.

Hi Engineers,
I have modeled an underground manhole (RC) in STAADPRO with axial load, load due to backfilling and surcharge load.
I would like to know the max moment and max axial load to be used for my RC design.
Any help?

Hi ELSARWAN,
Please find below link of parametric modelling software for STAAD.Pro.
It makes engineers' works much more easier and concentrate more on real engineering instead of modelling works. Especially the customized wind load input and sections etc.

ParaStaad High-rise Building
Wish it helps.
Best,
