Stab-in reboiler temperature indication

HI. I have found, in our plant, plenty of Stab-in reboiler, where the temperature indication is just at the same elevation as the top of the reboiler box. I guess, if you want to have the indication in the liquid, you should install your indicator, well below the top. Do you know why is this installed in this way. Is it done to detect leakage of the reboiler box, because as son as your temperature indication starts fluctuating, means that your reboiler box is leaking?

Yes, from what info you've provided, would agree this TT nozzle should be immersed in the liquid, and not at the elevation of the liquid overflow weir.

Depending on the actual layout of the reboiler, I believe the position of the thermowell close to the overflow weir is to ensure that the measurement zone is bulk liquid phase, not the film zone or any transitional zone between the reboiler tubes and bulk liquid, or any potentially dead zone that has very little mixing.
