What kind of Live Loads do you typically use for the roof framing above a stage for lighting and sound equipment. The occupants will not be suspending sets or anything from the roof, just lighting and speakers.

I would actually do an investigation of the actual light and speaker sets that they intend to use. These vary greatly depending on the size and nature of the facility you are designing.

Once you have a full set of the actual equipment, then you can see their layout and calculate their weight distribution and make an informed decision as to how you will represent their loads in your roof framing design.

Also, don't forget to include roof live loads (from above the roof) in your design.

I designed a roof to carry a cabling system before. It was one that would be modified at times in the future. I went ahead and added the roof live load plus the live load of people servicing (sitting on) the cabling trays.

If it is a stage where lighting systems are changed out frequently (like in large arenas) with people walking on catwalks, I would consider adding this live load plus roof live load.
