Hi,

I have the Oily water drain system.
oily water has 1500ppmw chloride and 10 ppmw sulfide and 44000 ppmw total dissolved solid at 45 deg C (atm).

We want to apply the SS 410 for pump (CA15) and tank.

Could any problem be occured in this condition?

If any problem could be occured, what is the recommended materials?

and more,
Is there reference for using stainless steel versus chloride limit?

And,

1. What is the recommended material for valve casing and trim?

2. How about carbon steel with epoxy coating for piping?

1500ppm Cl sounds high for 410. If you have any sludge or fouling you will probably get some under deposit corrosion.
Coated material sounds like a good idea.

Still trying to help you stop corrosion.

Thanks, EdStainless

We deside to apply coated steel for this condition.

xerox, look at nace-iso part3 for 410ss limits in oil & gas. you have to consider the pH and H2S partial pressure. a 410ss for a components of a pump in water containing chlorides is not the correct solution. you have to select more resistant materials like austenitic - duplex materials. a good reference for selecting materials for pumps in saline water is the "NIDI" ref 11004 - materials for sakine water , desalination and oilfield brine pumps.
hope this helps

Looking at the combination of temperatures and solutes, I would be concerned about 410ss. An issue that may be of consideration is the Critical Crevice Temperature - I believe the chloride concentration is high enough that you need to think about crevice corrosion (and pitting) and the temperature of 45C would normally send me to a super duplex or super austenitic material Possible considerations would be 2507. As a rule duplex stainless does a little better in erosion areas.

If you continually run into issues - and this is a pricey option, I would look into Ultimet alloy.
