thread284-275265 I saw this post to-day after I joined eng-tips. I had worked in a stainless steel hot strip plant. One of the difficulty faced by us was the wear of the rotary shear knives for edge trimming/cutting. Their edges got dull after one shift and we had to change the rotary shear knives each turn. We experimented with rotary knives whose edges were coated with tungsten carbide, The edges remain sharp for three shifts reducing the inventory of the knives and the up-time of the edge trimming line by 90 minutes /day
