Dear All,

Subject:

A manufacturer have to build a sphere according to ASME BPVC VIII Div.1.
This sphere should be marked with the Certification Mark with U Designator.
All WPSs have been prepared.

Questions:

1. Is it mandatory for the manufacturer to sign their WPSs by the Authorized Inspector before starting welding (Please give references if Yes)? or
2. Can the manufacturer start the welding and the AI will sign the WPSs later?

Thanks in advance for your answers

1. Is it mandatory for the manufacturer to sign their WPSs by the Authorized Inspector before starting welding (Please give references if Yes)?

No. Your Quality Manual should describe review of WPS by the AI.

or 2. Can the manufacturer start the welding and the AI will sign the WPSs later?

Yes. The AI simply reviews the WPS/PQR. This should be done before welding otherwise if there is a problem you could be faced with nonconformance and/or rework.

AI will not sign WPSs.

AI will however review and sign your ASME quality manual.
