Standard plans for highway bridges

Hi,

Do you know if there is a website where I can download these old books?

Standard plans for highway bridges:
v. 1. Concrete superstructures –
v. 2. Structural steel superstructures –
v. 3. Timber bridges –
v. 4. Typical continuous bridges –
v. 4a. Typical continuous bridges: load factor design –
v. 5. Typical pedestrian bridges.

I could not fin it at the FHWA or NCHRP online library.

I don’t know if there is any copy right issue.

I don't know about that specific resource, but a few places you might look:

Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance:

I know several states in the US also have standard designs in their standard specifications packages, but I don't know them well enough to tell you which states have which elements.

Go to Slide Rule Era's site. He has pdf's of some of the old US Steel Bridge Design Manuals, including one with pre-designed short span bridges. Regarding items 1 to 5, I assume you're referring to the old FHWA publications. Unfortunately, they don't exist as PDF's; believe me, I looked everywhere. In March, I contacted a few people at FHWA about them. One person who got to back to me said he has hard copies and plans on scanning them eventually. I have the pedestrian bridge plans as a pdf but it's not the best quality; some info got cut off because the pages were bigger than the office scanner. I'll try posting them if the file upload link is working. We had all of those in the office until some accountant went on a cleaning frenzy and threw out our library.

Yes, I’m referring to the old FHWA publications. I saw the V5 that you posted, and It is a wonderful manual. I like it because it has the drawings, the design criteria and some hand calculations of how they analyzed it. Even an orthotropic bridge is included!!! The whole package for someone that is learning about bridge structural design. Unfortunately, some important data is missing.
From where I’m from, it is still used the AASHTO standard whit some modifications (e.g. heavier truck loads). That is why I’m looking for these old references.
Hopefully someone would scan it in the future.

@ING RCG - I attached old timber bridge plans from the USDA, they're probably a copy of the old FHWA plans. I got to keep digging to see what else I have, but check out SRE's website. He has a lot of good, old information
