Hi guys,

I am designing a base structural member in solid works that is a rectangular shaped C channel base With 2 strips of Angle Iron going across them.

Solid works smallest standard size for a structural C channel is 3x5. I need to drop it by a few more inches and get the height to about 2 inches but that will result in a custom part that has to be manufactured unless that is also a standard? Its my first time designing so not sure where to look and confirm. Custom parts will be much more expensive so that is not the goal.

I want to get the dimensions of my C channel to be

Height: 2"
Width: 1.50"

Any advice on if this type of C channel is standard and cheap to buy basically without having to go custom?

EDIT: Reason why I ask is because from my short research on C channels the smallest standard size appears to be a 3 x 5 C channel. Dont know why they dont have a 2 inch height C channel readily available

You can buy smaller channels in the metal-rod department at Lowes, in 4' lengths or so, I believe. They will be about a 1/2" width, not 1.5" width.
You can buy some formed product for supporting conduit.
Consider using angle or solid square bar.

Small hollow sections may work better for you. Rolled steel channels are normally for real structural purposes, so there is not much demand for such small sizes.

yea bar channels are the same as the C channel from what I saw on google. I found a website called OnlineMetals.com which helped me find a variety of standard sizes for C channels.

Thanks guys!
