I would like to know what the standard slope is that you can safely operate a standard derrick/bucket truck on. I have come across what seems to be a general answer of 5%. That 5% corresponds to approx 11 to 1 which just seems too conservative. Is that a good rule of thumb or can a derrick truck safely operate on slopes that are steeper?

I stated my information wrong:

-Instead of 5% it is 5 degrees that I am finding.

Interesting question. I have the same question for operating my compact tractor. The book stated limit is about 5 percent, but I've had it at 3:1 and no sweat.

We know what is involved here and that is claims against the mfgr.

So, no one probably will offer a limit. I'd check with my insurance agent about coverage in case some accident happens at a steeper slope.

Have checked recently for cranes - 1 degree
