Standards for metal wear plate material selection

Does anyone know of any standards or even "rules of thumb" generally applied when choosing a material as a wear part?
I have a cast iron roller that runs on a steel track. The roller has a Rockwell B hardness of 95. I need to specify the hardness of the track such that the roller is the wear component in the system. Is there a standard that will tell me what material hardness ratio or value I need to have to ensure the roller wears before the track?

my rule of thumb is that hardness is not a very good wear indicator. Especially for erosion.

Is it a rail or just a track?
You could look at data for heat treated rail and see what hardness they use.
Based on experience I would think that if your track was RC35-40 it will still be tough enough to not chip or crack, and almost all of the wear should be on the CI.
