Standpipe Question

Existing building with 5 stairways and flat roof. Only one of the stairways has access to the roof. Each stairway has an existing standpipe. NFPA-14 7.3.2 (5) states that hose connections must be at the highest landings of stairways with stairway access to a roof and on roofs with a slope of less than 3 in 12 where stairways do not access the roof. Is it the intent to have the hose connections penetrate the roof at these four non access stairways? If so what is the purpose? Just curious.

Only one standpipe connection is required on the roof. The purpose of the standpipe is for manual firefighting operations. Firefighters can deploy handlines for the protection of the building from exposure fires.

you have 5 starways only one have access to the roof, NFPA14 state that "At the highest landing of stairways with stairway access to a roof, and on the roof where stairways do not access the roof."
it state stairways do not access the roof. but you have one stairway access the roof,so you will not penetrate the roof

Taking that most AHJ's would follow the standard word for word, the stairway's that do not have access to the roof would need connections that penetrate the roof. Where does it say that because there is only one stairway that has access to the roof we only need the one connection on the highest landing?

these great standards do not allows say what is or should be.

I think normal practice is that if there is roof access from a stair than stick a connection on the roof, if it meets slope.
That is what I have seen

If no access no connection, one reason is how do the firefighters get on the roof????? use a ladder???
