Standpipe question.

For example i only have 6 FHC in a fireprotection system, how much gpm i need to supply them? what i understood in NFPA 14, 500gpm at the most remote standpipe (2 FHC operational) plus additional 250gpm per additional standpipes. (the system is looped by the way) that will give me 1500gpm? i think im wrong. Please explain, thanks.

If I remember correctly, if the building is sprinklered, the maximum is 1,000 gpm. If it is unsprinklered, the maximum is 1,250 gpm.
 
ohh thanks a lot, so my understanding i somehow right. ill check NFPA 14 again. but do you think i need to use 1250 gpm? i think of using 500gpm only .
 
Darrin is correct. 1000 gpm maximum if you have a sprinklered building, 1250 gpm if not sprinklered.

If the area per floor is >80k sq ft then you do 500 gpm @ the two remote standpipes and pick up the extra 250 gpm if needed for unsprinklered.

If you only have a horizontal standpipe on a single floor, then I believe the maximum is 750 gpm.

Again, the details are important.

im not really the designer of this fire protection system. its very difficult to continue a design, i already computed the requirement based on NFPA 14 i arrived @ 500gpm 100psi fire pump for the system. i consider 500gpm based on the minimum requirements of NFPA 14 for the standpipes to pass the flow test. i have no choice of redesigning the FP plans. thanks you for helping sir.
