I see Siemens , in their raomanesque quest (they see, they buy they want to conquer (maybe) are rolling out CA programs under a new 'front-end' (if I interpret correctly.

Amongst them is a CFD prog called STAR-CCM+.

My question is simple - where does 'STAR' come from, what does it stand for ?
(I've done the usual searching and can find no explanation)

Found on the 'net:

"...May 06, 2004....The CD adapco Group, leading provider of CAE solutions, has recently released STAR CCM+..."

So it's been a mystery for at least 15 years.

The "STAR" seems to trace back to even older products, such as STAR-CD.

Perhaps there are some people on the 'Engine & fuel engineering' forum that would know what the 'STAR' represents.
