Hi,

I was wondering. Basic principal is DOL starter has a higher inrush current than STAR DELTA starter. Now, How about if I configure the DOL with STAR configuration. It will be same inrush current with STAR DELTA, or its still higher?

PS: What does it mean of student posting in "start a new thread area"? :)

It will be the same starting current as Y/D. But you will not get much power out of the motor since the slip will be around three times higher and that will heat the rotor very quickly. Your peak torque will also be reduced to a third of nominal torque.

"Student posting" means that the site management tries to keep clear of nuisance posting and nonsense discussions that inevitably follows most student postings.

Your question may be just such a posting. All professionl engineers know the answer to your question and a confused discussion with lots of ifs and buts doesn't do the site any good.

@skogsgurra

Thanks you for answer. Sorry, for my "student posting". I just want to get a lot reference about DOL and Y/D starter.

I made some recordings showing what happens when starting DOL and Y/D. The Y/D isn't always good because the rotor flux may be (usually is) at the wrong angle when the delta contactor closes. Shall try to find that recording for you. Fine that you weren't offended. You could have been :)

Looking for them. It may take some time.

I can only imagine that Gunnar's archives are comparable to King Solomon's mines...
