Does have anyone have generic industry-based information on the cost of inspections for static equipment.

What I'm looking for is a cost breakdown for carrying a thorough integrity examination on a "typical" pressure vessel (I agree this a very loose description). This should include:

- Vessel isolation
- Vessel preparation, cleaning, etc.
- Scaffolding
- Cranes & mechanical handling
- Engineering support costs
- Direct inspection costs
- Management costs

Steve;
Some of the tasks you listed are typically performed by the owner/user as a way to keep costs down. (vessel isolation, preparation, etc.) The actual inspection cost will depend on the size of the vessel and the required tests. My company specializes in the implementation of mechanical integrity programs and performance of required inspection activities, but typically projects are quoted on numerous pieces being inspected together.

Dear Mr.Steve

From the job discription you have given,the scope of work will be handled by more than one agency.Also for the activities of isolation and cleaning Client/user's close supervision is required as they only know the plant conditions.Based on the above for inspection work like checking the thickness of pressure parts,doing a NDT exam on the welds,conducting a pressure test etc, u can get unit rate for the activity and independent inspection charges (manhours x * hours),that too after u provide the vessel details like thickness,diameter.For the other activities like isolation,cleaning if u want to sublet u can do like this.call the party to the plant and explain the job and agree to a lumsum price.But again i recommend to have user supervision for this activities from safety point of view

Thanks and regards

Depends where you are and what the labour/services costs are in your markets. There is a company that specilaizes in Shutdown/Turnaround planning, scheduling, and cost control that we use that has a very good data base for these functions. We have found using them that we can consistently forecast our costs to +/- 10% for this type of work. They are called Delta Catalytic and the program is called CASP. In our area the head office is in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Good luck.
