Steam Jacketted lines for Molten Sulphur

What is the acceptable length of the Steam jacketted lines for molten sulphur with one steam inlet and outlet to the jacket. The jacketting steam pressure is 3.5 bar. It is being asked to have single length of 20 metres with one steam inlet and outlet . Is there is any standard for the designing of the Jacketted lines? My concern is on the Maintenance aspects ( for dismantling , repair in case of leaks in the jacket etc). Pl advise.

There are construction, transportation and installation limitations also. 20 meters is too long.

Since jacketed pipe must be shop fabricated in segments, I suggest that an 8-10 meter maximum length may be more practical

Which MBA superstar insisted on a 20 m length and what is his basis for the 20 m ?

You are, of course, aware that segments can be "jumpered" together for steam distribution and condensate collection........right ?...?????

Is this the first jacketed piping system that you have ever been involved with ?

Thank U MJC for your response. I have been in Maintenance for more than 10 years in SA plant and am aware of the difficulties in the Maintenance if it is more than certain length. But now I got shifted to Engineering services . The Process dept requires technical justification for not having it for 20 metres. They ask for standards.

Ever come across ControTrace? I'm seeing it more and more in molten sulfur service.

Keep your distance between traps from being too long, and be certain traps in this service are on an inspection program for routine checks if possible.

I am willing to bet that the maximum spool piece length for jacketed pipe is not too much different that the max for lined pipe...

I also suggest that, due to condensate drainage issues, 20 ft may be too high for jacketed spools.
