Does any one know who the values in steam tables are derived? I reguarly use them, but have never actually been informed of how they are actually physically derived. Does any one know?
I have had a bit a look around to no avail.
Thanks,
Lyle

Why would you like to know so many secrets. it has to do with a whole bunch of calculations, equations, long hrs of reserch in labs, ...

Steam Tables are tabulated results of experiments conducted in UK. The original steam tables are in Imperial Units and that leads to the small difference in values of various Steam Tables available in SI Units.

Follow this link it should answer most of your questions.

Also two guys from Cambridge did alot of early work in this area, search under Keenan and Keyes for more perhaps historical info.

Good luck!

Viscosity of Steam at Saturation
Fitting the viscosity data to a model
one could curve fit the process..

where:
(uo,To) is a reference point...
the quadratic model function of the form

does a much better job. The quantities ui and Ti,
are a transformation of variables ui and Ti
given by:

running a least square fit on the transformed data
originating from data in the temperature range from
210 deg to 300 deg C results in coeficients:

the resulting fit has an error less than
0.11 percent in the temperature range 300 deg C.

however although the tables were curve fit to
a certain degree...sivaiop is correct they
were experimentally established.
