Hi everyone!
Refer attached sketch for a model, whereby a steel plate is fully supported by a large timber post and a Reidbar tendon extends from the centre of the steel plate, through the post and has a load attached to it. Not sure if it makes much difference, but the model would actually be applied for determining the plate dimensions and Reidbar thickness for a waler associated with a tie-back retaining wall.
Is anyone familiar with the methods shown? - they've been handed down to me from a senior engineer some time ago and I like to know where these things originate.
Where does the 2100kPa value come from in the area of steel plate calculations?
The objective of the attached calculations was to find the plan dimension of the steel plate, thickness of the steel plate, and to avoid failure of the flange nut and the Reidbar tendon.
If there are better methods available that can be completed by hand calculations, then it would be really great if I could be steered in the right direction.
