A developer is attempting to provide a brand new STEP system (ie. septic tanks are not there now)located in PA to be taken over by the local sewer authority. The development contains a significant amount of pipe with no houses initially, which is why they are proposing STEP (as they claim that it does not require a minimum velocity of 2 ft/sec due to less solids as does a traditional grinder pump LPSS). My initial thoughts (and limited research that I can find)have me greatly concerned of significant odor/corrosion issues, possible treatment issues (even though it is only one small portion of the collection system), creation of potential pollution sources (the septic tanks located in rock outcrops) and the remaining potential for significant blockages / maintenance due to no initial houses. Does anyone know of any reference material that you can point me to or have any experience dealing with STEP?

Contact Logan Twp., located in Blair County, PA. A portion of the Central Blair County Sewer Authority’s collection system is STEP and is tributary to the Altoona City Authority’s system. I don’t know who is operating the STEP system, but it will be a Township employee.

Also look at their fiberglass tanks; they are water tight.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that the influent ammonia concentration is very strong in this type of system.
