According to which welding code you need to know about?

Get the appropriate design/construction Code and read the sections pertaining to welding and get a copy of ASME IX or API 1104, whichever applies, and read it. In addition, hire a consultant to help you.

Dear Birken, Please, according to ASME IX and API 1104. I need the steps for qualifying welders as per these codes.

Thanks for your assistance.

To say it would be difficult to "train" an individual how to organize and conduct welder qualifications, qualify WPSs, and all the activities associated with those operations is an understatement.

If you do not know how to qualify WPSs and welders, you really need to get formal training or hire a consultant that can train you.

These activities have legal ramifications that if done incorrectly can put a company out of business in the worst case and in the base case waste time and money.

Dear Birken,
Thank you for that links, please, can you help me to get the weldpurse in software or where to download a free copy. Just exactly the one you posted that i need.
I will be grateful.
Regards

The software is WeldPulse and you can download a free trial from their website That would work for few days and then you need to purchase the license for continuous use.

I'm going to disagree birken: Welding certification references and software are available on-line as you pointed out.

The KNOWLEDGE of welding needed to do the job safely and properly so HIS welds are safe for "me" and "others" to live next to them without fearing their failure is not. That the original poster is jumping so fast on those references and is so quick to try to start his program, while at the same time "unable to even have a clue" of what to do and what he is responsible for and what even the basic process is - as his first question implies - means that his program will fail.

Unless he/she spends the money to get a professional in welding cert's. And even then I'm skeptical. Sorry, but I have no choice but to be skeptical based on what I've read and what I know doing welder certification and training.

ifeanyi2013,
Based on your query, you have shown no real knowledge of welding, welding procedure qualification, welder qualification or the construction/manufacturing Codes governing welding. You need further education and mentoring by experts in welding and the applicable construction/manufacturing Codes. There are courses available that you should take to gain adequate experience should you be made responsible for the welding activities of your employer. Find those courses near where you reside or on the internet and enroll. Meanwhile, hire a consultant experienced in welding and the Codes of construction to mentor you and to assist your company in applying the appropriate welding technology for the Work to be done.

There is a series of several articles on the subject of WPS and welder qualification in the publication Inspection Trends published by the American Welding Society.

The first of the series is available at with subsequent articles in the issues published each quarter.

Be fore warned that the writer uses some of the examples of PQRs, WPSs, and WPQR for training. They contain intentional errors for the user to find while reviewing them. However, the approach is valid and may prove useful to you.
