What are the optimum methods to make sure the supporting foundations are able go deliver the seismic forces to very stiff soil or rock like? i usually design by usually getting the soil bearing capacity even for very stiff soil or rocklike but these are not elastic, so during seismic activities. How is the siesmic energy from the soil gets transfered to the stiff soil or rock?

Isn't anyone familiar with this? the behavior of footings on very stiff soil or rock? there is no cushion or spring like effect so would the columns get bigger moments, something like this? also would the footing just slide against the stiff rock during seismic movement? could this be a way for the energy from the topmost portion of the building to transfer to the soil?
