Storage of GRP Pipes Susceptible to Sunshine 1

Hi everybody,
Is a good idea to cover a pile of GRP pipes, which shall be then installed underground, with a temporary layer of soil, in order to get rid of roofed structured area expenses?

It would be good to protect them from UV. But , more importantly , we found the joint surfaces needed to be sanded before cementing to get good joints .

Putting the pipes under the soil will prevent UV exposure.

However, use of soil may cause other problems. For example, a teaspoon of soil generally contains between 100 million and 1 billion bacteria. Is that an issue? Will you have to clean the pipe off to use the pipes?

What is the problem with just using a plastic tarp?

McDermoot - why do you believe they need protection? Get advise from the vendor before you do anything else.

Most GRE pipe specs I see say it isn't required. Sure the surface gets a little discoloured, but there is no requirement and many such pipes remain above ground their whole life.

If you really want to show you're doing something, then just cover them with a dark sheet / tarpaulin.

Covering them with soil is easily one of the silliest things I heard of recently, especially if someone tries to do it to a set of stacked pipes.

You're trying to solve a problem which, IMHO, doesn't exist and in the process create several more and greatly increase the risk of damage during soil being tipped onto them and subsequently removed.

So is it a good idea - No

Agree with LI - cover them with a Tarp! How long are you going to store them? Is the storage time really an issue?
