We are in the process of recommending a storage tank fume vent control system for a client who is off loading HCL Acid from a rail car into their Fiberglass storage tanks with air pressure ( 30 psi ), do you have any recommendations and or references for good design practices of the fume scrubber and duct for the storage tanks HCL acid fumes that are displaced from the storage tanks vent during the filling from the rail car ?

Furtaw...

A wet scrubber is commonly used for HCL tank vents........ But, you may be setting yourself up for big trouble....!!!

Pressurized off-loading to an FRP tank has repeatedly caused failures ( and lawsuits) in the process chemical industry

Several tank manufacturers warn against using pressurized tanker truck offloading for thier Fiberglass tanks.

The EPA and OSHA have distributed a report about an FRP storage tank incident in 1998

I have personally inspected a FRP HCL tank that was blown off of it's foundation due to a plugged vent line that went to a wet scrubber. The damaged tank had no emergency vent.... the replacement tank, of course, had a great big one.....

My opinion only
