Strange Characters messes mathcad equations

From some reason when I key mathcad operators such as the colon-equal =) or just the equal sign, etc. I see pictures such as disk pictures instead of the :=. I assume it is probably happened due to an installation of a new program that changed files in the Windows 2000 professional system.

Does anyone had the same problem and if so is there a way to correct it without reinstalling Windows 2000 Pro?

Yes I tried and it didn't work. I also tried to update my windows 2000 pro to SP4 and tried to fix my office hoping the font files will be updated. Ir seem that instead the ":" it prints the picture of a computer and instead of "=" it prints the diskette picture for example.

As far as I know you can not change mathcad fonts for the operators.

Have you checked Mathsoft's website for graphics issues with the OS and version you're using? Do you have the latest Mathcad patch for the version you're using?

This won't help, but I had some issues with copying/pasting in Mathcad 2000 under XP which were supposed to be fixed under the latest patch. Later found out that they knew about the problem of copy/paste but "were no longer supporting Mathcad 2000 under XP". In the end I managed to reduce the problem by switching off my anti-virus.

I want to thank you all for your help. I have solved the problem. It seems that when I uninstalled a demo of a program some files were deleted. I reinstalled the demo and it solved the problem.

I had a similar problem when some of the button faces on pop-up windows started appearing in Italian. It came down to some system files, and Windows defaults. For some reason, my Windows default was being over-ridden by a system process that used a specific language variant if it was available. And only in some applications, not all. Something similar may be what is happening in your case - but with fonts instead of languages. Try searching the microsoft knowledge base - it gave me the clue to dealing with the problem.
