Strength of cast to size vs machined from casting test coupons. 2

I'v always been told that when testing cast to size magnesium tensile specimens the casting "skin" should be left on. With some specifications there are different requirements for cast to size vs machined from casting specimens.

Does anyone know of any articles that discuss this?

The presence of a fine grain skin on Mg castings, especially high pressure die castings, is well documented. The former Hydro Magnesium published a lot of technical papers, etc. that included information on the effect of grain size and mechanical properties.
