I have a part fabricated from aluminium 6082 T6, which suffers occasional cracks. We are putting a few changes in place to prevent further cracking including changing the filler rod for future parts. Also, we can afford to reduce the mechanical properties away from the weldments slightly (I appreciate the alloy is annealed and weak close the welds - the design has taken this into consideration)Therefore we are going to give the part a slight stress relieve. Could anyone offer me guidance on temperature for a T7 type heat treatment for this alloy - I assume it is in to region of 240°C.
Note that the reason for putting into place a number of changes is that we have not been able to carry out a full failure investigation as put are repaired and put back into service.
