Stretch material

Hello,

I am looking for a stretch material than has linear resistance. For example, the material starts with weak resistance and then progressively increases with resistance.

I am also looking for a stretch material that can achieve over 800% elongation with good recovery.

Please let me know if anyone has any insight.

Kerrie,

1. Elastomers are non-linear materials.
2. Elastomers will lose properties after each stretch however the loss will decrease with each subsequent stretch.

If you can live with the above two items then silicones may work. There may be other materials but you will probably have to speak to a company that custom compounds elastomers.

Natural rubber latex will do the job perfectly well with elongations at break of up to 1300-1400% easily achievable.

I agree about NR latex but pitch any specification below 1000%. The trouble with very high EBs is increased batch to batch inconsistency. You're working near the limit. Claims have also been made for some thermoplastic elastomers, notably styrene copolymers, but recovery will be relatively poor, especially when the yield strength is exceeded.
