Hello,
I have a friend who is a home inspector but is also getting into commercial inspections. He has been asked to look at a CMU wall that has been on a fire and was wondering what he should be looking for to determine if the wall is still OK or should be replaced.
Thank you

This is when the home inspector should say "hire a structural engineer".

Check the joints. He should hopefully have a probe set. Make sure the joints are solid by trying to probe them or scrape them. Have him take a camera and take pictures of any anomalies. This should really be a forensic engineering inspection with a report.

Tell him not to recommend something he isn't sure about, he could be held accountable. A lot of the time (for us anyways) an inspector will go out, realize he's over his head, and recommend a structural/forensic engineer to come look at it.
