Substation

Hi,

I have just started working for an energy company in Moscow Russia as an English language editor and would like to know more about substations and learn the vocabulary associated with them. Are there any web-sites that would help me learn just the basics? The company design, install and commission substations. Any help is much appreciated.

I realize we have all come to expect free access to any type of information on the Internet as a birthright, but if you are doing this for a living, I'd recommend purchasing some good reference material. If you can give us some idea of your background, I imagine you will get some good recommendations on books to purchase.

Thanks for your help. I dont mind buying anything but with me being in Moscow and not knowing the language yet its easier for me to find something online. I have no previous professional qualifications in electrical engineering but i was a project manager on the railway for signalling and telecommunications so my knowledge is only limited to this.

A copy of the Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers by Fink and Beaty would probably be helpful. It has reasonable descriptions of basic substation layouts as well as substation equipment and devices.

There is also an IEEE Dictionary and IEEE Style Guide that would probably be of some use in doing technical editing. I believe the Style Guide may be available on-line, but the Dictionary is in book form.

Are you russian ?
I know the book shop on ulitsa tverskaya. here it is possible the find some technical slovary for electrical.
One of those dictionnary is coming from FSK, thus I belive it may be a gook source.
