I have a CIP circulation line and steam is injected into the pipe. My goal is to maintain a constant pressue throught the line. I get too much pressure drop during the cleaning of one tank. My plan is to add the second pump near the tank so that I can boost the pressure. I have a hard time to calculate the suction pressure for the second pump. Anyone has any idea what needs to be considered to calculate the suction pressure for the second pump?

Thank you all.

From the words you use, it almost sounds like you are thinking about pumping steam somehow to clean that tank.

please provide a one-pine diagram (with line sizes and temperatures, pressures) of your proposed arrangement.

Your use of acronyms will make some people less likely to comment. I assume CIP refers to Clean-In-Place. This term is only used on our plant on water purification systems. Without more details, no one is likely to give you any meaningful suggestions. A more complete description of the process and a diagram would be useful. I assume you are talking about hot water, heated by the injected steam. If it is two phase flow or pure steam, then this becomes a much more complex (or impossible) problem.

Thank you racookpe1978 and Johnny. I am new to the blog. You are right Johnny. I am using 50 psi steam to inject it into water line. Line size is 3" and total length of pipe is around 400ft. At 200ft upstream of 1st pump, there is a 500 gallons tank. Tank is cleaned with sprayball. There is around 30 psi pressue drop on sprayball. The plant wants to add another pump near the tank so that there is enough pressure to clean the tank. My collegue told me that plant wants to maintain 50 psi steam pressue throught the line. I am not sure that is possible becasue when you injected steam into water it will loose pressure. Please give your thought on this.
