Suggested reading for begginer

I am a plumber, and am in my second year of my apprenticeship. I plan on going past being on the jobsite strictly and would like to deal with drawings etc. I am fairly good at reading plans and putting the picture on the paper into real pipe.

I am asking for some suggested reading so that i can teach myself some of the code and the reasoning behind it. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

You need to possibly join ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) (if you're in US) and/or attempt to get their Data Books. There are four books and I think they modelled themselves after ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) which aslo publishes four books (each one updated every four years). Anyway, the books are:

1. Fundamentals of Plumbing Engineering
2. Plumbing Systems
3. Special Plumbing Systems
4. Plumbing Components and Equipment

I joined ASPE back in mid 90's when I first started doing some plumbing design. At the monthly meetings (local chapter) they frequently had code discussions as well as other topical plumbing classes. The members/guests were plumbers, designers and engineers.
