Hi, I have a question regarding supplementary test S4 ( Proof load tests of large nuts)for SA 194 GR.4 Nuts and S2( lateral expansion test) for SA 320 Gr. L7 bolt.
I come across some documents in which only SA320 GR.L7 and SA194 GR.4 bolt and nuts are required to have supplementary tests S2 and S4 while other materials don't have such a requirement. My question is when we should require such tests? Is it related to MDMT ( for example for MDMT -95 C) ? or other parameters? Also, I don't understand the difference between impact test and lateral expansion impact test. When should we use lateral expansion test instead of impact test ?
I would appreciate it if you help me.

Supplementary tests are not ASTM/ASME required tests. They are standardized descriptions of optional tests the purchasor may wish to invoke in an order, hence 'supplementary'.
