I have a small office 3.5m x 3.5m. Is it ok to place the supply and relief air grilles side by side, 1 off each. My theory is that the supply delivers air at a high velocity. The relief air, even though it is next to it, is for relief air purposes only at low velocity? The relief is into a ceilig pelnum.

Is this OK.?

Hi Remp, is it VAV because if so, velocity you expect at full flow will usually be lower in operation.

You could probably get away with it with a decent throw from the diffuser and a three way blow, with the blanked off section on the return register side.

But as a practice I'd avoid that configuration if possible.

It's OK.

If this is a vav job, when the thermostat starts to be satisfied, the air leaving your wall register will not make it to the exterior wall unless you have a minimum setting on your vav box that you know will throw that far. The return air grille should be sized large so that if the door is open the return air does not go through the door and possibly upset another thermostat as it travels to a main hallway return air grille. I would use 0.02"w.c on the grille. Air is like anything, it will take the path of least resistance.
